Översvämningen i Venedig 1966



Då steg vattnet 1.95 meter och hela staden låg under vatten. I veckan var det högsta vattenståndet 90 cm över. Men 1966 års historia har en intressant bakgrund:

... On 4 November 1966, after 40 days of incessant rain, a hapless official in Florence opened the sluices of a reservoir to prevent them being destroyed by the press of water, and unleashed a flash flood "of terrifying force" according to Peter Lauritzen, who saw it. The water inundated Tuscany's great art city, killing 90 people, damaging invaluable works of art and turning historic libraries into blocks of clay ....
