För några år sen läste jag Platons dialog "Georgias". Den handlar om retorik. Georgias hävdar att det är med retorik som med matlagning. Alltså en konst. Sokrates håller inte alls med. Retorik har ingenting alls med kunnande att göra. Snarare med träffsäkert, djärvt gissande av vad folk vill höra. Invasionen av Irak granskas nu och förhören sänds på nätet. Samtidshistoria. Carne Ross, who was Britain's Iraq expert at the diplomatic mission to the UN and resigned over the decision to invade, said the committee was not being aggressive enough in questioning the decisions the Blair government took.
"It's like a fireside chat at a Pall Mall club," he said. "They're not digging below the surface. Why did the government not consider the alternatives? Were there meetings to consider the alternatives, or were the Brits just swept along with the Americans."
